Although China is one of the largest emitters of greenhouse gases and pollution, it has invested more in renewable energy than any other country and is making real efforts to address the effects of rapid industrialisation. Mark Beeson, International Politics at UWA, suggests that while China's authoritarian leaders may be able to manage the expectations of its own people in this regard their policies may be an obstacle to those of the so-called international community.
