Judith Amey takes us to Irkutsk, a major city in Siberia with a fascinating history. A place of exile for intellectuals, artists, and nobles who revolted against Tsar Nicholas I in the early 19th century. Their influence is still very palpable in the city's architecture and aesthetics. It is close to Lake Baikal, the largest, deepest, and oldest freshwater lake in the world; home to more than 1,700 species of plants and animals, Next we visit Harbin, the biggest city in Northeast China, is now home to one of the four biggest ice and snow festivals in the world. You will marvel at the world record-sized snow sculptures, as well as ice buildings, palaces, monuments, and statues some 50 metres tall.
