Alex George will share the stories of two women who made significant impacts on the social and scientific life of their times. Emily Pelloe (1878-1941) was a champion horse-rider, a columnist with The West Australian newspaper and author of two books, Wildflowers of Western Australia and West Australian Orchids, illustrated with her own paintings, and was a trailblazer in popularising our wildflowers. Rica Erickson (1908-2009) was a farmer's wife, naturalist and social historian who wrote books on orchids, triggerplants, insectivorous plants, local histories, and a dictionary of everyone who lived, even briefly, in Western Australia up to 1915.
