The Roman Empire has had a lasting impact on modern civilisations. One way to measure and illustrate this is through archaeology, where one can view and touch 'scale': for example in terms of numbers, distribution, size, quality and survival. Professor Kennedy, an archaeologist who specialises in the Roman Near East, will explore the scale of the Roman Empire, what British archaeologist Sir Mortimer Wheeler characterised as 'the grandeur of their thinking'.
