The Dictionary of Lost Words, by Pip Williams, is the first book for this term. Motherless and irrepressibly curious, Esme spends her childhood in the Scriptorium, a garden shed in Oxford where her father and a team of lexicographers are gathering words for the very first Oxford English Dictionary. Over time, she realises many words are considered more important than others and that those relating to women''s experiences often go unrecorded, and secretly collects words to complete her own dictionary. This story interweaves the themes of the suffrage movement and reveals a lost narrative hidden between the lines of history written by men.
